Last November 16th, we arranged a guided tour with our collaborators to the new MACBA exhibition Rosemarie Castoro. Focus at Infinity with Tanya Barson, curator of the show.

Rosemarie Castoro. Focus at Infinity is the first major institutional exhibition of the artist and it concentrates on the years 1964–79. Castoro (1939–2015) established her career in the context of Minimalism and Conceptualism in the US, circulating at the heart of the avant-garde in New York. The exhibition includes colorful abstract paintings, delicate wood sculptures, pictures of her performative actions in the street and studio, poetry, mail art, installations and land art.

Her activism in the Art Workers’ Coalition, her relationship with feminism and her association with contemporaries such as Carl Andre, Hollis Frampton, Sol LeWitt or Yvonne Rainer are some of the topics that the exhibition deals with.

The aim is to demonstrate how key contributors to Minimalism haven’t received the deserved attention, particularly the group of women artists belonging to a movement that is often erroneously identified as essentially masculine
